What Makes a Good Photo?
By following these guidelines, you’ll help Bec create a portrait that truly captures your pet.
To create a lifelike and beautiful portrait, it’s essential to start with a quality photo of your pet. Here are a few tips to help you select the best image:
- High resolution and sharp: Choose a clear, high-resolution photo to ensure all details are sharp and visible. Avoid blurry images, as they can make it difficult to capture your pet’s features accurately.
- Good lighting: Aim for natural lighting without harsh shadows. This helps capture your pet’s true colours and details.
- Focused on your pet: Ideally, your pet should be the main subject, centred in the frame, and alone in the photo. This allows Bec to focus on their unique expression and features.
- Capturing their personality: Select a photo that reflects your pet’s personality, whether that’s their playful side or calm demeanour.
- Looking directly at the camera: For the best results, try to capture a photo where your pet is looking directly at the camera, allowing Bec to bring out their personality more vividly.

FAQs
Please read through these FAQs before placing your order. If you have any additional questions, feel free to include them in the form, and Bec will be happy to help!
The best photos are high-resolution, well-lit, and focused on your pet. Ideally, your pet should be looking directly at the camera, clearly visible, and the main subject of the photo. Avoid blurry images, and try to capture your pet alone in the frame to help Bec focus on their unique expression and features. See the What Makes a Good Photo? section above for more details.
Turnaround time is typically about one week before shipping, but as each portrait is an original, hand-painted piece, timing can vary based on Bec’s current workload. Bec will confirm the expected timeframe with you when you place your order.
Currently, these portraits focus on single pets to allow for the highest level of detail. If you’re interested in a multi-pet portrait, reach out to discuss options.
Bec uses 300gsm premium cotton watercolour paper that is acid free, which won’t yellow over time. Properly framed and displayed out of direct sunlight, your pet portrait will retain its beauty for years to come.
No, we don’t provide previews of the artwork. Bec believes in preserving the excitement of the process, so your portrait will be a delightful surprise when it arrives.
Each portrait is a unique, hand-painted artwork, so it may not match your photo perfectly. Bec captures the essence and personality of your pet, which adds character and originality to the piece. The result is a one-of-a-kind portrait of your pet.
